I was dismayed to find that the paste tool just didn't work. The male slots on the tool are not wide enough for the female slots on the inserts. This allows the tool to effortlessly remove and break the grooves of brass inserts, even when the wood has little resistance. I broke the three included bits trying to drive them into poplar after drilling a hole with the included bit. With the nuts, I went back to the tried and true method. I definitely do not recommend this product. After realizing that the hole size drilled is actually larger than needed for an 8-32 insert that uses a much stronger hex system for inserting, I wonder why anyone would choose to use 6-32 inserts that are included in the kit. Perhaps wider male threads will provide better retention in some cases. In my situation this is not a problem. I was looking for a small diameter insert that would fit a 1/2 inch thick frame and decided that a 6-32 insert would fit better than an 8-32 insert, but that doesn't apply to this 6-32 large diameter inserts. .For reference, I use EZ-Lok 8-32 hex/hex zinc bits all the time. They work well (and better than other brands) and are easy to insert by hand (no drill required). Tapered inserts so I was shocked to see how poorly the same company's 6-32 inserts perform.
