Be aware that like all Chinese paint brushes, the lifespan of your brush depends on how you take care of it. Upon receipt, the bristles are glued together, so they must be softened by placing the brush in a glass of cold water, right up to the plastic neck, to avoid wetting the bamboo handle. Flip it every few minutes, then gently press it against the side of the glass to increase its flexibility until it becomes pliable. Rinse again until it feels quite sticky. Now when you load your brush with ink or Chinese colors, do so up to about 3/4 of the bristles so the ink or color doesn't hit the base where the hairs were gathered and glued together. Always rinse thoroughly in cold water each time you use it, wipe thoroughly on a rag or paper towel until there is very little ink left on the cloth, and bring to the point and allow to air fully dry. Otherwise, the ink remaining on the bristles may rot and the bristles will come off the pen. Never prep or rinse your brushes with warm/hot water or soap. With good care, your brush will last at least ten years.
