Review on πŸ’¨ Efficiently Control Airflow with POWERTEC 70166 Aluminum Blast Gate, 5-inch by Donnell Cursed

Steel blade that slides closed is too thin/soft

I applaud Powertec for giving us a cheaper alternative to a great blast gate design. However, they have cheapened the quality of the steel blade that slides in and out to the point where it's not worth the discounted price. The blade was warped on arrival so I took the blast hatch apart and flattened the blade as much as possible to ensure it would close securely when closed. Unfortunately, in a workshop there is a very high probability that one day the blade will bend and the seal quality will further deteriorate. Die-cast aluminum cases were fine. I recommend spending about $5 more on the higher-end McMaster Carr offerings, which are slightly thicker and have a much stiffer blade. and slightly better finish on aluminum and fasteners.
