Review on 🍳 Presto 06626 11 inch Electric Skillet: Convenient Cooking with a Glass Lid by Marc Salem

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The perfect frying pan for the small kitchen and the passionate cook.

I love to cook, but I have a small eat-in kitchen with a narrow range and limited worktop space. I do most of my cooking and prep work in a condensed L-shaped area, with the stove on my left and my kitchen sink just around the corner on my right. I put this electric skillet in the "G" corner and use it either as an extension of my stove or instead of it. The surface of the non-stick pan is so smooth that it's perfect for dishes like crab cakes, where I pre-cook various ingredients for the final assembly step and can just wipe the pan down with a paper towel between each cooking cycle. . I only have to rinse the pan once at the end of a meal (and the pan's small size is perfect for my small sink). The pan heats up quickly and the temperature dial lights up when the temperature is reached and goes out when the desired temperature is reached. I've also noticed that my pan is fairly level on my fairly flat countertop (e.g., no cooking oil collects in any corner of the pan) and the pan's clear glass lid is very handy for watching food cook. .More Information:1. The cooking area of the pan is 11 x 11 inches; and its width, including handles, is 11 x 14.5 inches.2. The power cord is 30 inches long, which works great when an outlet is nearby. I like this because I prefer not to have a lot of extra power cord lying around and taking up space.3. Temperature control settings range from 200 to 400, with an additional "Heat" setting.4. I haven't found anything in the documentation that lists the "Warm" setting temperature, but my (non-scientific) tests with my instant-read thermometer show that "Warm" is about 168 degrees Fahrenheit in my pan; and does not boil water. There's an unofficial "Warm" setting, just below the setting marked "Warm," at the first point on the temperature dial where the heat indicator lights up. This unofficial setting on my pan is about 108 degrees Fahrenheit.5. The pan heating element is hotter in the center of the pan (e.g. crab cakes will brown faster in the center) but not hot enough to burn the food. Both the lid and pan (but not the power control) are dishwasher safe, although the documentation that came with the pan warns that dish soap will stain the bottom of the pan. I found the pan easy to clean in the (cleaned) sink, so I didn't try it in the dishwasher. This pan is not intended for frying and the documentation clearly states this.

Pros
  • Expensive but decent
Cons
