I was in a hurry trying to track down every creaking noise on my bike. A huge improvement was that my LBS replaced the pressed-in bottom bracket with Wheel Manufacture (wheelsmfg.com). Definitely something to consider, probably not that most people have the tools or skills to do it themselves. This squeaking of the left wheel is the main source of noise, albeit a minor one. I've been building and tuning wheels for years, adjusting tension without a gauge based on the feel and sound of the spokes. I figured I could do just fine without a gauge, but with a gauge I was able to see and correct small differences in spoke tension. To be honest I was shocked that this got rid of the slight squeaking from my wheels. It's not expensive or difficult to use. If you like messing around with your bike, this is a really fun and surprisingly useful tool.
