Works great, essential wheel fitting tool

I didn't have the original and bought this as a cheap alternative. With his help I was able to completely rebuild my 29" mountain bike rear wheel and had no problems. I did my own research to find spokes and the process. Tension readings match what is really necessary. As far as I can tell it seemed the reading also tightens the wheel about right, although I can't be sure of its accuracy.I've never assembled a wheel before, but this tool helped a lot (was a must).Together with the Parktools…

Great bike maintenance tool

Essential item for wheel assembly. Saves from a lot of headaches on the road. The hardest part is getting rim manufacturers to disclose their voltage specifications on their products. Luckily, some forum users have listed the characteristics of many common wheels. Easy to use with repeatable readings. No more broken spokes and wheel alignment is much better. Used it to test a factory new wheel that was wrong and found the 2 spokes were out of spec. Drop 2 spokes and the wheel will straighten…

Seems good value for money

As this was my first spoke tension gauge I have no comparison. But it seems accurate and very easy to use. My only complaint is that it has a slight "sticking" when adjusting the tension gauge, but this can probably be remedied with some light lube. Sticking is more pronounced at high values, but minimal at values typically used for road bike wheels. And the last remark. I used to think that tension gauges were only needed for making wheels, but I've learned the hard way that when testing your…

Poor assembly for spoke tools

The pivot arm is (essentially) held in place by a shoulder screw. There are plastic discs that take up space and reduce friction to make spinning easier. These washers were too thick. So when you tighten the shoulder screw, the arm doesn't rotate, so the spoke tension can't be reproduced. , with virtually no drag and little or no play. I then measured the tension on some of the spokes with a borrowed Park spoke tension gauge and calibrated that gauge to the Park gauge. Thus, this sensor was…

I was wrong thinking I didn't need it.

I was in a hurry trying to track down every creaking noise on my bike. A huge improvement was that my LBS replaced the pressed-in bottom bracket with Wheel Manufacture (wheelsmfg.com). Definitely something to consider, probably not that most people have the tools or skills to do it themselves. This squeaking of the left wheel is the main source of noise, albeit a minor one. I've been building and tuning wheels for years, adjusting tension without a gauge based on the feel and sound of the…
