In general, it's pretty good, an equal number of pros and cons.

After reading a sufficient number of positive testimonials on this glass, I decided to go ahead and purchase it. I use Nikon D800. Disappointment at viewing the initial photographs; the sharpness needs to be "milked" like a cow in the graphic editors; there is no contrast; the field is covered in a pale pattern all throughout. Much less light is required for a nighttime photo, but once again, there is no crispness. I previously owned a Nikkor 50 1.8d, and I can attest to the fact that this model is not only superior but also cheaper and sharper. I converted the 50 1.4D for use in ID pictures, but it did not reveal itself in the best light there either; excessive post-processing was required. In a nutshell, I parted ways with it, and I don't feel the least bit of remorse about it. Instead, I went out and purchased a Sigma 50 1.4 DG, which seems like a fairy tale in comparison to this lens. Having prior experience with various lenses in the older "D" series, and none of them left an impression. The conclusion is that lenses made in the last century are not suitable for professional work or for sophisticated hobbyist photography. That should be enough for novices and those interested in experimenting! By the way, the lens does not come with a hood, and the hood that is available separately for it is made entirely of rubber; how exactly did he damage it? (this is covered in another review)

Pros
  • Not quite as much, though balls on the bokeh is a feature that appeals to some audiences.
Cons
  • It's not contrast that's the big question; sharpness is. The design from the previous century is not compatible with backlight, and it is too expensive for a lens of this type.
