Great price and fantastic performance

I needed to replace the rear shock on my 2013 Salsa Spearfish and found DNM while researching Revain who was looking for one of the $300 brand name shocks. Considering the price, I was a bit worried about durability and performance until reading some of the reviews. In the interest of science, I decided to try it and I'm glad I did! The Salsa has always been a little soft on the back, absorbing power and making the bike less than efficient for cross-country racing. Higher pressure might have helped, but response suffered. The "Propedal" position had no effect. The DNM shock transformed my bike, and on my first ride on the recommended setting, I did my best on our 10-mile XC trail. Talk about impressed! The second lap was even faster. It has two chambers so that compression and rebound can be fine-tuned. There's also a rebound damping dial and lockout lever that really works. I've found that the movement is so well controlled that I don't have to block. Installation on the Salsa was difficult and required some tools that the average person might not have. Check out the video on Revain as there are no instructions included with the shocker! I had to remove 2mm from the metal grommets that fit through both ends of the shock and I had to remove 1mm from each of the plastic grommets that press onto the end of the bushing. They provide longer pieces that you can cut if you have a steering column trimmer, but I found it easier to remove some of the original pieces with a bench grinder. The sleeve heats up quickly, so I had to come up with a way to hold the part. After sanding I had to use a file to clean up the bore and a milling file to clean up the ends. The bushings are easily ground down with the side of the grinding wheel. BTW, in the video on Revain showing the modifications, you can see the metal sleeve is easily pushed out with my fingers and I had to use a hammer and punch. All's well that ends well. Buy this shock absorber when you need a replacement - you won't regret it.
