The principle of operation of this filter is fundamentally different from all other Versamax. His water is sucked into the first compartment (there is nothing filtering in it) and then pours through the top into the second compartment (where the cassette is) and also pours through the top into the aquarium. Essentially, no filtering occurs. In the more expensive Versamax, water flows from the bottom up through the filter material and real filtration occurs. And this water passes through the top of the filter and drains.
