**Update** I need to fire my big guy from SD duties so I bought a pup. The steps are PERFECT for both as the bottom step is low enough off the ground that my old man can still use it and the pup is not scared. I can't say enough good things about these steps. I'm pretty sure I sold a dozen for the company ;) The steps are great and I love the non slip surface. My dog was reluctant to use them because there was a large gap (9"+) between the top plate and my bumper due to the adapter I had to use (my receiver is only 1"). It fell between the step and my bumper, so I had to ask a welder friend of mine to do the top step for me. The company offers nothing in this regard. We removed the cover from the square tube that the steps attach to and I asked them to weld the tube to the plate. She slipped the tube into the tube and threaded a screw through to hold it in place, but also made it removable in case the next machine I get has a standard 2" receiver and the adapter doesn't more is needed. She also welded a square foot to the bottom of the plate to hold the pressure/weight on it. The plate stays where it is and doesn't get in the way of the steps no matter what position they are in, and it does it didn't hit my bumper. My dog, a Great Pyrenees weighing 110 pounds, now feels secure and has no problem going up and down stairs. It's easy on his joints and my back! I get asked about it all the time by strangers and I always recommend it, but with the caveat that you may need to go the top tier if you're using a receiver adapter.
