My 4.5 year old is not quite ready to pedal bike so we bought him a 5-9 year old balance bike (16 inch wheels). He totally loves it! My boy is medium height at 4.5 years and the lowest seat height fits him well with plenty of room to grow. My 9 year old boy could drive it too. Thanks to air-filled tires, it drives smoothly on asphalt and is easy to steer. He's pretty fast now which makes cycling with my three kids a bit easier as he can almost keep up with them at times. I add slime to tires to prevent punctures. The bike is so light that we can pack it in a twin stroller when he gets tired and wants to ride in the stroller for a bit. The only issue we had was a bent tube at the handlebar attachment point that I had to bend back with pliers so we could insert the handlebars. A little tired but not worth sending back and waiting for a replacement.
