It is already assembled. All you have to do is snap the pieces into place! It comes with a separator but unless you have a very small dog I wouldn't use it. I bought a small cage and I have a mini american eskimo he only weighs 5lbs. I wish it was a little bigger but it has enough space to lay down. He has gone there several times on his own but never tried to leave it there for long (even the cats climbed in there and love it)! It came with instructions to help them with crate and potty training which is really helpful! I hope this works well for us.
