Slicing potatoes by hand for homemade french fries is a huge headache. It takes too long and is difficult to get an even, consistent thickness. I was excited to try this product and it was pure magic. about half a dozen medium to small yellow potatoes. I mixed in some reddish browns that were a bit bigger and not as soft. It took quite a bit of pressure to push them through, and on about the third or fourth try, the elbow mechanisms on the side buckled so much that I couldn't put them through the cutter. The plastic handle fell off. Overall, this is a fragile product that works well for onions or soft/small yellow potatoes, but isn't strong enough to make enough fries for the whole family.
