Good price! - Bike tools and care

Worked great. There are several tricks to do this. First, you need a high-pressure lubricant. If you ride your own bike, you should already have one. Brush over the threads, including the threads of the part that attaches to the connecting rod. This keeps the aluminum from sticking to the steel. Second, use a square nut or make a square steel plug to place on the crankshaft. This prevents damage to the threads. This is why the tip of the Park Tool breaks. The tip on this one is solid. Third, the real trick. Bring on the heat! The crank arm is made of aluminum and the shaft is made of steel. You will and will remain under pressure. Stretch the tool and then heat it with a hair dryer. This causes the aluminum to expand. If you cannot touch the metal coating by removing it with a tool. The paint doesn't need to be blown, it doesn't need that much heat. One final note: the part that screws into the connecting rod should only be finger tight. If it won't screw in, the crank threads are damaged and need to be cleaned and repaired. BTW: The tool used to remove the nut holding the bearings is a 1/2" ratchet socket. For me this wasn't a problem since I had a ratchet this size. As with all ratchets, it is recommended to hold the ratchet head during use I had no damage during use If you have a twist grip ratchet, aligning your hand in the same plane as the BB nut will also reduce tool twist.
