I've tried this with BJTs and capacitors so far and seems to work well with both so far. The device comes with no instructions, but it couldn't be easier to use. Plug each component pin into the ZIF socket and click "Test". It's actually quite magical to see the pinout and component type being automatically detected. In the case of a transistor, it also shows you Hfe and Vbe. In fact, I bought this primarily for transistor matching and binning. The caveat here is that the Vbe of the device only goes down to the millivolt level, while applications that require Vbe adjustment might need 100 microvolts or even more. Still, I think it's a win. To get really well matched resistors, the easiest approach is to use one of the simple breadboards you can find online that compare a test transistor to a reference transistor. This device allows you to perform a simple pre-check for this workflow. ie you can pre-determine the most promising reference transistor in terms of Hfe, and then you also have a much smaller pool of match candidates to test with (assuming you start with a pool that already matches at the mV level). Two other factors led to my getting a perfect score: My device arrived with a cosmetic scratch on the screen and bezel. Also, unlike some other devices, this device does not have a pad that allows you to directly test SMD modules if that is important to you.
