Update Summary - Bad HDMI connection

Update 11/26/17 - Strange. I wasn't actually planning to revisit this product almost exactly three years after the last one, but I went through my old reviews and found this. All I can say is mea culpa! The problem was a faulty HDMI cable; This monitor was just great! I highly recommend it (or its newer update). Updated 11/28/14. Unfortunately, I now have to seriously downgrade my review score due to a faulty HDMI port on my monitor. Recently (within the last week - less than three weeks after delivery) my monitor showed up with a faulty HDMI port. It doesn't matter what cable I use (I've tried several HDMI cables), my monitor "turns off" intermittently. I just don't have the ability to set the input on the back of the monitor to have a clean and daisy chain connection. This is very annoying and not a quality issue that I've had with other monitors I've had. --------- ------------------------------------------------------- --------- ---------- Original Review - I bought my VN279QL to replace what seemed to me a dead Samsung P2770 monitor (also 27"). Turns out I just needed a new power adapter on the power cord and now I'm using Samsung on another computer And the comparison between the two monitors is pretty harsh This monitor is excellent especially for $300 I was going to buy the VN289QL, but was concerned that the extra inch of screen size would make 1080p less sharp at minimum gain. I don't know if that's true, but I'd like to know if it is. As it is, text is less sharp than it is on mine Samsung monitor, but not annoying - and the greater brightness and vibrancy more than make up for all other shortcomings.HD movies are amazing on this monitor. The picture, like other features, is very bright and even or.i run mine at 50% brightness (default mode). The controls are a bit tricky to master, and the lack of a manual makes it difficult to figure out how to use some of the more esoteric controls (like the phase and clock settings in the focus section?). I would appreciate if someone from ASUS could post a link to the documentation (someone on Newegg said it exists but I can't find it). My monitor was delivered in one day, no defects and very good build quality. The stand is much better than my Samsung and the adjustment is great. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a high quality 1080p monitor.
