I bought these bugs along with Melissa and Doug's Buggy Buggy House for my 15 month old grandson who was getting bored with his toys and needed something to encourage more interactive play. His mother, a first grade teacher, thought it would be fun to hide the bugs outside and let him look for them. The first few times he was taken out he didn't know what to do but they encouraged him by pointing at them and saying "I think I see something in the grass!" It really got him curious , and the fact that these little bugs are made of bright, durable molded plastic that's comfortable to hold in his little hands makes it an even bigger treat. He's so excited to find everyone and put them in his trunk. And it helps him learn the colors by saying the first syllable of each. I bought a lot of toys for this little guy and these little critters along with the buggy house is an activity he will actually spend half an hour on. Outside. He also has a water table that he puts them on to bathe the insects. Hey, bugs have to be disposed of too, right? π
