Shiny, otherwise usual hatchbox quality

Quality filament that prints easily like the usual hatchbox colors, but has a reflective sheen to it. Also slightly more expensive but worth it if you want the shiny colors. Bridging and layer adhesion isn't as good as the non-silk colors, but should still be acceptable for most prints that aren't abused. If you use thin walls or make highly detailed prints, layer separation is often an issue compared to normal (non-silk) hatchbox and other good PLA type filaments.

Pros
  • Might cost a dollar or two more but it's worth it.
Cons
  • Has a strong chemical odor

The best around good for me

Hatchbox is hands down the best FDM 3d print filament you'll ever buy. At first I tried buying alternative brands do save the $5 or $10 difference in price but everything else failed me. I experienced constant snapping, adhesion issues, warping, etc . with other brands but not Hatchbox. I've purchased three rolls all different colors and each one runs just as smoothly as the last. I know occasionally people will recieve a roll from a bad batch of fillament, but even then Hatchbox customer…

Pros
  • Really awesome Hatchbox filament. Beautiful color. Shipping was fast from great vendor !!!
Cons
  • May require specialized settings in your printer

It's Hatchbox, of course it's great!

I haven't found a Hatchbox roll of color that hasn't been spot on perfect and this sweet lavender is no exception. The color is titled light blue, but when you hold it to blue, you see the shades of purple when compared. If you're looking for a nice pastel lavender, this is it. From the perfect spool winding to the matte finish you expect from Hatchbox, you'll be happy you made this purchase. Consider paring this with the Mint for a spectacular dual colored print. As usual, Hatchbox is one of…

Pros
  • PLA (Polylactic Acid) 3D Printer Filament Vacuumed Sealed With Desiccant
Cons
  • Not recommended for use with children or pets

brittle, different than other filaments

I found this to be prone to not sticking correctly in fragile spots. In large, solid spots, it did very well and it looks beautiful, but doing anything fragile leads to splitting and breaks. I'm not sure if adjusting the settings would work, but I was working on a Creality CR10 which is a pretty nice machine. Regardless, you may have to adjust your settings, or otherwise, stick to really solid things without fiddly bits.

Pros
  • The best silk filament I have worked with. Hatchbox consistently delivers.
Cons
  • Resin can cause skin irritation

Lots of warping/shrinkage

The filament has some really unusually material properties, it’s a surprisingly stretchy and seems to have an very high surface tension, which leads to warping and shrinking. My extruder gears struggled to extrude it even after I raised up the nozzle temp significantly above the manufacturers spec or the normal range for PLA. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because the color is really quite beautiful and if you can get this filament to work I bet the finished parts would look amazing. As for me…

Pros
  • Will be buying Hatchbox from now on!
Cons
  • No issue printing, easy to work with but color description is way off. it is orange not gold.

Extreme Color Variation

I really like Hatchbox plastic, because it always prints well. This "Silk" PLA is no different. Functionally speaking, it's still a great product. The issue I have with this versus Hatchbox's non-silk products is consistency. I ordered the exact same listing, and received two vastly different variations. The first was more brown, and the second is significantly more red. Enough so that I can't use both spools while printing the same parts.I included a picture for a visual. It shows the…

Pros
  • Beautiful color, nice shiny finish and prints exceptionally well.
Cons
  • May not stick to the printer bed properly

Pink has no strength

I have tried all sorts of settings, and even at 215C with 45% infill and 8 walls of thickness everything comes out brittle and airy. If I lighten up the settings a bit, it just doesn't have any layer adhesion at all. If you beef up all the settings you can get it to print, but don't expect anything that can be played with by kids. It is just going to be something that sits on a shelf. It is funny, because one of my favorite PLA filaments is Hatchbox's orange filament, which just makes everything

Pros
  • The Hatchbox Silver Silk PLA filament comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. If for any reason you aren't satisfied, you can get a full refund
Cons
  • May be more expensive than other similar filaments

Good filament, pale color

Printed with no issue at 205. Went down smooth and made a nice print. The color however is not as rich as the color in the photos. Happy all in all, would have preferred a bit more color though

Pros
  • This filament is not abrasive, which reduces the wear and tear on the printer nozzle and ensures a longer printer lifespan
Cons
  • May not be suitable for outdoor use

Nice Filament. for my opinion

Interesting filament, has a different feel than most for sure. a bit of extra stringing when I use it - but with a name like "Silk" I sort of expected it. It works really well for Lithopane printing, as well as any model where you don't intend to do a ton of post-processing.

Pros
  • The filament provides a smooth and silky texture that is perfect for producing lifelike human organs and body parts
Cons
  • Can produce a lot of waste material during cleaning

This is a great product!

It prints very well with high quality, since using this I haven’t had any issues with clogging or failed prints. The one issue I have is that it sticks to the print bed.

Pros
  • Hatchbox Silver Silk PLA filaments are engineered to be highly reliable, with the manufacturer carrying out rigorous quality control measures
Cons
  • May require specialized tools for cleaning and maintenance

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not as strong as other Hatchbox

Not as strong as other hatchbox filaments, the color is good, but I was surprised that the quality wasn’t as good as regular hatchbox pla

Pros
  • Hatchbox Silver Silk PLA filaments are easy to find online and in most 3D printing supplies stores
Cons
  • Can be challenging to find replacement colors

The wind on the outside of the spool is bad. It was actually wound tight and poorly which cause it to snap when it knotted up. Hatchbox has been better than this up until now. Maybe this one was fluke.

Pros
  • Spool Diameter: 7.88" - Spool Width: 2.69" - Spool Hub Hole Diameter: 2.24
Cons
  • May require specialized disposal methods

Rolled by a Monkey on my review.

The quality of this is amazing. But This one was role by a monkey blindfolded. I already damage 2 of my prints because of it

Pros
  • This prints well. The color is a shiny brown that looks metallic (like copper). I love it.
Cons
  • May take longer to set and cure than advertised

Pricey, but the results are lovely.

I love these silk filaments. I’ve had no issues printing with them and they look amazing at .15mm layers. They are pricey but if you already use Hatchbox (or the likes) filament then you’ll be used to paying over $20 for a spool of PLA.

Pros
  • The Hatchbox Silver Silk PLA filament has excellent adhesion to the printing bed, reducing the risk of failed prints
Cons
  • Can be challenging to find local vendors

Good product - my new review

This is not normal PLA, it is silk just like it says meaning you need to use higher temps but comes out very good. Hard part is any cleaning you need to do, very hard to clean. this is only reason I didn't give it a 5 stars rating.

Pros
  • The Hatchbox Silver Silk PLA filament is soft and easy to bend, making it easy to remove from the 3D printer and support structures
Cons
  • May require frequent troubleshooting to achieve desired results

Beautiful filament!

It's interesting since the way it comes looks dull and gold almost brown color on the gold color. But once it is heated up and exits the extruder it's a brilliant gold with sheen and it's absolutely beautiful. Printed on my mp v2 select mks 1.4 converted printer at 60 bed temp and 210C hot end. Printed it on bare glass, zero adhesion issues, stuck like glue. Fantastic filament.

Pros
  • Great color and value
Cons
  • May require frequent cleanings to avoid clogs

My favorite filament

I started using Hatchbox filament on the recommendation of an online source. It is now my go to filament. It has proven more reliable than the other brands I have used. I will order Hatchbox unless they do not have the color or type of filament I need.

Pros
  • This 3D printer filament produces high-quality prints at an affordable price, making it a great choice for budget-conscious 3D printing enthusiasts
Cons
  • May require frequent color changes for certain projects

So happy with this filament!

Beautiful filament that prints easily!I purchased the silk mint color PLA and it prints better than other filament I have used so far. I will definitely buy from hatchbox again!

Pros
  • This filament is easy to print with, and you won't need to adjust your printer settings much to achieve the desired printing quality
Cons
  • Requires a lot of trial and error to get the desired result

Hatchbox is the best at the lowest cost

I only buy Hatchbox PLA, I have tried other brands, but theirs is consistently high quality and I am happy with every roll. I have never had an issue, the colors are great, and each print comes out just as good as the previous one.

Pros
  • Definitely best filament around
Cons
  • Can be difficult to use for beginners

I enjoyed the look of this filament. Unfortunately, after about 20% of the roll was used, a tangle caused a long print to fail. I unrolled past the tangle, but found more of them and what appeared to be an incredibly poorly wound left 10% of the roll. I've contacted Hatchbox and am waiting to hear back on any options for a resolution.Edit: Hatchbox customer support was great and made things right. However, the product isn't available through any source I can find so I cant provide a better…

Pros
  • This filament is non-toxic, making it safe to use indoors and in small spaces
Cons
  • May not be suitable for use with certain printing software
