An updated 10 year old commercial SOHO firewall that was genuine and reliable to the end. Trying this product out and going from an expensive, high-end firewall to a relatively inexpensive unknown brand was a little nerve-wracking. However, this product (non-WiFi version) was something I got up and running in minutes. Kudos to TPLink for the simplicity of this product. As with any hardware device, I strongly recommend that once you connect to the internet, you immediately download and apply the latest firmware to the latest version to resolve any issues that may arise. instability issues. The firmware update process was smooth and only took about 5 minutes. The characteristics of this device are very similar to SOHO's high quality commercial product. So far I've used the dynamic DNS features supported by this product (it just works) as well as the native DHCP features. Additionally, being able to set rules by which the internet or services can be available at certain times is very handy to ensure teens get to bed until the wee hours. This detailed set of rules in the firewall product was one of the reasons that motivated him to buy this product and it works like a champ. The line speed I've tested with it averages between about 443 Mbps up and 514 Mbps down. This is an average when backed by around 33 IP-enabled devices, which is pretty impressive for sustained throughput. The native capabilities for VPN and authentication services are pretty impressive, although I haven't fully tested them at this point. The only notable downside I've found with this product is the performance hit when HTTPS management is enabled. Although enabling this feature doesn't affect it all that much, there are noticeable effects when you enable HTTP-to-HTTPS redirects. My recommendation is not to enable this redirection feature until this is fixed in a future firmware release. Aside from that noticeable drop in performance, everything else works impressively well. No real complaints about this product, highly recommend.
