Not satisfied with AM Static - FM Tuner ONLY

I live in the Los Angeles area and my antenna broke on my 2005 Tacoma during a recent car wash so I had to remove the broken portion of the antenna. Got my new vortex antenna yesterday after installing the antenna, FM stations work fine but there is noise on AM stations and the signal drops out when I'm driving. I want to solve this problem because I listen to a lot of sports radio, and this antenna does not work for me? I was hoping this antenna would work for me but it looks like I'll have to buy a factory antenna, crap! my AM tuner and I was told the antenna is not for AM, "FM ONLY"! meant for AM/FM, I find that very misleading. Attention buyers.
