The claims are a bit exaggerated, but it works.

This is my second wireless access point. I started with a Hawkings hotspot and was very impressed with how I was able to access the internet from my patio in 10 minutes. However, the next day I had no connection. After 1 hour of technical support, we came to the conclusion that it is defective. So I turned to another manufacturer. After reading the reviews, the D-Link product seemed to me to be the best. Based on my past experience, I expected to be up and running within 10 minutes of opening the box. First, the D-Link product is tiny and portable. It comes with a wall mount if you want to mount it that way. I don't know why no vendors include a network cable, but make sure you have one before purchasing the product. address from a dhcp server and i would be ready to go. Well it wasn't, I don't know if it was Linksys or D-Link but after playing with the manual for 20 minutes I still couldn't connect. Here's what I found. If it doesn't work right away, throw away the instructions and call tech support. The instructions were useless. I went through the setup step by step and nothing worked. I was sure I had another defective product. But with the help of tech support (about 20 minutes wait time) we installed and earned in 5 minutes. Here's a procedure that works when the device appears to be dead. Reboot your device and write down the MAC address. This is the same as the serial number of the device.2. Connect your device to a network hub and your computer to the same hub. You must have a standard network card for this procedure to work. If you only have WiFi I would recommend getting at least 1 wired connection or you will be frustrated for a long time.3. Run the installer and if the device is not detected automatically, you can add it manually. Try to follow the manual but in my case the IP addresses in the manual just confused the issue.4. Find out the IP address of your network card. This can be found by running the ipconfig command from an MS DOS.5 prompt. After finding the IP address of your network card (in my case it was 192.168.1.101 for the Linksys network), add the device manually. Enter the MAC address (serial number) and then choose an IP address on the same network as your network card. Do not use the IP address listed in the manual (192.168.0.10) unless your network card has the same first three digits (192.168.1.xxx). In fact, I never recommend using 0 as a network address. I chose 192.168.1.10, and then the program found and added device.6 with no problems. Then choose the same SSID as your wireless network card. Choose something to remember, e.g. B. HOME for a house. Thanks to this procedure, my device finally worked. Incidentally, the same procedure worked for the Hawkings unit. In fact, I think it's the same device, just in a different package. Same power supplies, same software, same quirks. So, for functionality, go with what's cheaper, Hawking or D-Link. Although Hawking's technical support is even worse than D-Link's. I wouldn't recommend this device for beginners either. Good price and good product in general once you get the hang of it. However, I am disappointed with the DHCP and range claim. The device should have obtained an IP address from my DHCP server and I would not have to manually configure the device as the literature claims. Well, that's not how it works, and neither do hawks. Tech support told me this sometimes happens. Also, I live in a very simple three-bedroom square house, stucco on the southwest, and even with the device in the middle of the house, the connection quality drops to almost 10% only in the courtyard. However, I forecast the same quality from all suppliers; the same applies to cordless phones. Take the range they claim; Divide by 4 and that's what you really get.
