I was struggling to get the software to find the WAP when it's connected to the same hub as my servers. I ended up using a crossover cable to connect directly to the WAP and the setup program found the WAP immediately. However, I still have to run WEP. I think part of the problem could be that my PCMCIA card is Intel and was missing something to set it up properly, but the instructions in the quick start guide (which is thicker than the regular user guide) didn't work. I downloaded the latest drivers for the DWL-650 first - there weren't any for the DWL-1000AP. I looked at the manual for the DWL-1000AP and it said I need to set up the laptop first.
