Difficult to set up. Works well at work

I was struggling to get the software to find the WAP when it's connected to the same hub as my servers. I ended up using a crossover cable to connect directly to the WAP and the setup program found the WAP immediately. However, I still have to run WEP. The setup software isn't very user friendly, but I'm sure there is a way around this. That's not bad for the price of the D-Link DWL-1000AP. Signal strength is good in several rooms and on the first floor. Be sure to check the public SNMP stringโ€ฆ

Good entry system.

First of all I like this device. It was easy to set up and install and has worked for half a year without any problems. I installed one in one of our small field offices and liked it so much I bought it for my home. That being said, it doesn't seem to have as much range as some of the more "professional" systems, but it's also part of the price. I think this system is the best "SOHO" hotspot available. However, I have a few complaints. There should be an improved "locking" mechanism for theโ€ฆ

Works fine once you can get it working.

Took me about 90 minutes to set it up and get it working when it should have taken 10. I think part of the problem could be that my PCMCIA card is Intel and was missing something to set it up properly, but the instructions in the quick start guide (which is thicker than the regular user guide) didn't work. It wasn't automatically detected, and when I entered the MAC address with the IP address as in the manual, it showed that it still wouldn't work. After looking at the full (smaller) userโ€ฆ

The claims are a bit exaggerated, but it works.

This is my second wireless access point. I started with a Hawkings hotspot and was very impressed with how I was able to access the internet from my patio in 10 minutes. However, the next day I had no connection. After 1 hour of technical support, we came to the conclusion that it is defective. So I turned to another manufacturer. After reading the reviews, the D-Link product seemed to me to be the best. Based on my past experience, I expected to be up and running within 10 minutes of openingโ€ฆ

Easy to install, unstable and absolutely UNRELIABLE

This is a fully revised review. I have changed my rating from 5 to 2 stars. DLink was my first wireless access point (first wireless network experience) and I seem to have confused quick start with long-term reliability. As I thought it would be easier to have the same provider for AccessPoint and PCCARD, I was completely wrong. AccessPoint ships with a "BIOS" that does not support WEP128, but an update is available. After trying 3-4 times to install the update, it finally happened, but itโ€ฆ

Need line of sight for indoor signal strength

I would give 2.5 stars if I had the chance. The good news first: it was definitely easy to install (along with the DWL-650 PCMCIA card) on my existing network. I downloaded the latest drivers for the DWL-650 first - there weren't any for the DWL-1000AP. I looked at the manual for the DWL-1000AP and it said I need to set up the laptop first. So, following the instructions in the DWL-650 manual, I installed the newly downloaded drivers first. Then I plugged the PCMCIA card into my laptop (HPโ€ฆ
