I originally ordered gray but the soundboard slots were unfinished and very rough. I have several decks worth hundreds of dollars so I had to sand the wood there. When I sanded it down the gray was gone and now it had bare wood that didn't look good so I decided to try staining. Wow, that didn't work at all, the wood was covered with some kind of protective layer, which made it almost impossible. I had to re-sand the whole thing, NOW THE WATCH IS LOST because the wood is soft, a blow can make it uneven. It took forever so I bit the bullet and bought a natural colored frame this time, but again encountered the problem of the rough finish in the slots. I sanded down the crevices, smooth, perfect, which took hours to get perfect as a hit of soft wood will make a world of difference. The wood is very soft and even ringing can leave a big dent. Finally, after weeks of trying to get them right, this one came out beautifully, perfectly symmetrical and smooth. No matter how slowly and carefully I assembled it, an extra turn to sink the pieces of wood together exposed the wood in nearly half the holes on one side. If you have the time and are knowledgeable about wood projects and troubleshooting, this might work for you. It's a nice little stand and the perfect size, but in my opinion it should be made from a much stronger and denser tree of materials. The slots should be smooth, as should the sides, for those exposing higher quality decks. They accepted the return so I appreciated it and wanted to give a fairer review if I wasn't so angry. Lesson learned.
