not very useful with arthritis as it doesn't always like to get caught on the lid edges and falls off before you can turn it off. an open jar but basically it's not good for people with hand problems like arthritis as you still have to hold the jar tightly to use this tool when it's attached enough to the lid to use it. I ended up getting a shooting pain in my left arm just from having to squeeze the glass so hard! We recommend that you just skip this or any other tool that requires you to use two hands and just buy a used "Black & Decker JW200BM Lid Opener" for around $40-50 that will NOT hurt your hands!
