Review on πŸ”’ Butyl Tape for Waterproof Sealing and Leak-Trapping, Ideal for House Exterior Walls, Ships, etc. (1.97in x 16.4ft) by Jason Cho

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not reversible, but strong enough and waterproof.

I wanted to use this tape to join pond liners and was surprised when I first opened the tape and found it was single sided. The aluminum side is not removable and must be on the outside of the seam. Pond liner tape is used on both sides to join the liner sections together. We tested the tape with 14.5 mil pond liner available at your local hardware store. We glue two side cans together, check for waterproofness. We ran water through the seam for several minutes and didn't notice a leak in the seam we taped together. The tape has good initial tack and can be tightened to provide some resistance, but it is not a permanent bond. The butyl side is white and has the consistency of fresh chewing gum. I figured it held the two sides of the pond liner together tightly enough to be used as a seam tape for the pond liner and figured that the aluminum side of the tape would provide enough pull resistance that the liner wouldn't come loose.
