The 25.4mm center section is wide and thick enough for my aero clamps. Mountain bike V-brake levers (with flexible plastic clips) mount on and around the corner. These angle arms require too much reach when mounted from the front, so I moved them up. The steering wheel is surprisingly light. The black finish didn't scratch as I slid and rotated the brake levers. Now I can turn a hard mountain bike into a 26" long road bike. The end caps are tight and require a lot of force to insert, so the aluminum needs to be thicker than regular steel bars. My first test ride was awesome. The lowest hand position was comfortable. If you leaning forward and putting more weight on the front wheel puts a lot less stress on the saddle.I'm glad I bought this item!
