General quality issues aside, this system is awesome and I've finally made a smooth pie crust! I had a small crack in the wood on one end and I carefully applied a food grade mineral oil to condition the wood. The rolling pin itself has a slightly rough texture, as if it needs to be sanded down with fine sand or was made with the wrong grain direction, but dust it with flour and it won't stick to the pie crust etc. The plastic parts limit the width, you can twist the dough roll out, just aim for a long rectangular shape with the cookie dough and it will come out fine, wide enough for the pie crusts.
