Review on πŸ’― Reliable and Fast MaxDigitalData 4TB HDD for Surveillance CCTV DVR with 2-Year Warranty by Kevin Ilango

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Inexpensive memory upgrade. Heats up, requires a DVR with a fan.

Update: My original 5 star rating has dropped to 3 stars. I found that my security dash cam could not see the MaxDigitalData drive during a reboot after it had been running for a while. After turning off the drive and allowing it to cool down, everything is fine again. Unfortunately the drive gets very hot and my DVR doesn't have a fan to cool it down. I can't risk running my security system with this problem so I went back to using an old WD Purple 1TB drive. There is a forced air fan (the product specs make no mention of this). Luckily I was able to return the CD for a refund. Low Price I decided it was time to increase the recording time of my 3 year old security system. It uses a Samsung SDR-B74301 DVR with a factory installed 1TB drive (WD "Purple"). Installing a new 4TB drive took less than ten minutes. In summary as follows: 1. Shut down from the administrator screen and then unplug the power cord.2. Remove the cover (5 screws). Remove the drive (4 screws). Disconnect the SATA cables from the old drive.4. Install a new drive. Replace the cover.5. apply force. When the video image appears, a message will appear saying the HD is not formatted.6. Login to the admin screen. Select Device->HDD tab and run format function.7. The HD is up and running in less than a minute. Ready! The larger hard drive gave me the opportunity to increase the frame rate and recording resolution. With an old hard drive, I had to use lower resolution settings to ensure adequate recording time. Now I have much more recording time with improved image quality. By the way, I don't hear any drive noises during operation. No cables or screws included; Simply reuse existing devices. Instructions are not included with the drive, so please refer to your DVR security manual for technical assistance. Or ask a techie to do it for you.
