Image quality and magnification WAY exceeded my expectations (although I was a realist bordering on pessimistic when purchasing this unit). I think it's best to start with the attached photos and see for yourself first:1 . Ruler - smallest measurement 1/16 inch2. Ruler - the smallest measure 1 mm3. oatmeal 4. knife blade 5. some electronics (I think I could do better with it) 6. more electronics (same comment as above)7. black sesame (due to the very light background you won't get much detail - lesson learned; look at the zoom for that, black sesame or white, the size is more or less the same) 8. Skin on fingertip 9. Pixels on one Desktop Monitor10. hairOkay, so a few things first: 0. This review reflects my very first impressions of the device1. I didn't try very hard to take better photos, I believe you can do better than what you see in the attached photos - these photos were taken with a device connected to a Linux computer (Ubuntu to be precise) connected to which it was recognized as a webcam (I used the Cheese app for this, in case you're interested)2. I think you can get better magnification by removing the protective cap that keeps things off the front lens to protect it. I think the point is that you need to get closer to get better magnification. I actually tried removing the cap and it kind of worked, but the depth of field is sooo shallow when you go beyond the protective cap, which is difficult to get good photos (not fully verified)3. I haven't tried Video4. I barely touched the PC application that comes with the hardware5. I tried the Android software that comes with the device, it doesn't work. What I like: 1. The increase is reasonable, ie. I like it with the protective cap. (Again, if you remove the cap you might be able to get closer and get a better zoom, but I haven't tested this.) 2. It works like a normal USB3 webcam. Works with Linux (see above - works like a webcam)4. Battery powered (it would be more useful if it actually worked as a Wi-Fi camera)5. Wi-Fi connection as a feature (I mean I wish it worked with my phone) What I don't like: 1. Doesn't work on my Android device (program installed, camera on, connected to Wi-Fi - black screen ; restarted everything - didn't help - it was on a Pixel 2XL, not sure if it matters). 2. The stand is terrible, it will probably look nice on the shelf, but other than that it's not very useful3. Android app - NOT WORKING for me4. the protective cap is too conservative in its protective functions - it keeps the observed object at a distance which i think could be reduced, if the distance were reduced it would give a much better magnification. In general - I like it. Deducting 2 stars only because the Android app doesn't work - the wi-fi feature was advertised for this device and just doesn't work for me.
