I read other reviews before purchasing this diverter and many of them said it was difficult to install without leaks. Having had some plumbing experience I decided this would not be a problem for me. I was wrong. The valve came with a washer and an extra washer. I tried it first with the one already in it, but my sink only has a couple of open threads to screw the valve on, and the single washer wasn't thick enough to fill the gap, so it leaked and dangled. I figured an extra washer was provided to solve this problem, so I put it in the valve on top of the other. There are now not enough threads in the valve to connect and run on my faucet. So I removed both shims and just put an extra one in, but it was about as thick as the previous one and leaking as before. It looked like I needed 1 regular washer and another about 1/2 thick, but I didn't have any. I bought this to replace the original plunger that came with my water filter so I looked into my old one to see what the washer was. It had an O-ring instead of a washer, so I took it off the old one, put it in the new one, and it worked like clockwork. It sticks well to the faucet and does not leak. The valve knob was initially difficult to turn, as some other reviewers have mentioned, but it loosened over time and wasn't a constant problem. Now it works perfectly and I am satisfied with the quality of the valve itself. I was able to fix a leak during installation but I can see how a typical homeowner with little or no plumbing experience can seriously struggle with this or give up and send it back. I understand that not all faucets have the same number of exposed threads for the valve to screw onto, so for some people this can be screwed directly onto their particular faucet with the washer provided and work fine. But maybe a set of washers of different thicknesses that comes with the derailleur will prevent many disappointed customers and many returned valves.
