Review on πŸ”Œ Enhance Connectivity with the Apple Thunderbolt USB C Adapter by Anthony Wilson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Terribly expensive. That works great too. But make sure you need it before you buy it!

I have an expensive Western Digital portable RAID drive (see WD 2 TB My Passport Pro Portable External Hard Drive - Thunderbolt - WDBRMP0020DBK-NESN ) that uses a Thunderbolt 2 connection From the MacBook Per inch models they had nothing but USB-C ports (with Thunderbolt 3: still confused?). So my portable RAID drive became immediately useless because there was no way to connect this existing drive to the new MacBook Pro. This situation may never pose a problem for you unless, like me, you're trying to connect your Thunderbolt 2 drive to one of the new Thunderbolt 3/USB 3 ports, such as those found on the new MacBookPros. But if so, then you need this adapter to enable such a connection. It's one of the few of its kind on the market, but when you need it, you need it. It's well built and I've had no issues with it on the few Thunderbolt 2 drives I've used. It's physically larger than most dongle connectors, with a large, rounded plastic shell at one end, which is undoubtedly where the circuitry and ICs to convert the data stream between Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt 3 reside (which probably also explains the connector's high price). . the need for controller chips to enable Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 connectivity). So I highly recommend it as it works very well and is very well made. But it's quite expensive. However, if you need it, I would go with this model because Thunderbolt (either 2 or 3) is a modern high-speed transfer format and you want the best possible transfer speed with data intact during transfer. Note. This whole discussion of the topic gets even more complicated because in the "old" Thunderbolt 2 standard, the physical connector is exactly the same as the "Mini Display Port" connector type. Who came up with this brilliant idea? One (Thunderbolt) transmits DATA AND VIDEO and the other (MiniDisplayPort) ONLY VIDEO, but physically they are exactly the same! To confuse us even more, add Thunderbolt 3 and upgrade to USB at the same time as USB 3, and then the decision to make USB 3 and Thunderbolt 3 internally compatible sometimes leaves you sitting there scratching your head.
