The sharpener works very well after we finally figured out how it works. Although I believe that so far it is not working as expected. When I opened it for the first time the kids had crayons in hand to try it out, they were thrilled that the old crank didn't work anymore! We played around with it for 15 minutes and branded it DOA. He didn't work at all. I packed it up and was going to send it back the next day but my husband came home to try his luck. He was able to make it work by holding the trash can while you slide the pencil into the tip. Which worked fine. I'm sending it back anyway, honestly I don't want to mess around with a two-handed sharpener again. It could have been a lemon but that might be a security feature I don't want.
