I use this diffuser with the following headlight: http://amzn.com/B00R5CXY3Q. Standard light output from a lamp is round so this diffuser really helps expand the pattern so I can hold the lamp on my handlebars. For my 2.5 mile bike path, this wider pattern is adequate. If I had a longer trip ahead of me, or if I mainly drive on city streets, I would buy a second headlamp for my helmet (using the default lighting scheme). After using one diffuser for several weeks, I decided to try two diffusers at the same time. I laid them back to back with the ridges parallel. I used a small piece of clear tape around the edges to align them and then installed them into the lamp as usual. This seems to add a little more to the light pattern than a diffuser, and I've left both in place since. I didn't use the red diffuser.
