I bought these to vacuum the bottom of my fountain and also to change the water. Thanks to the larger diameter of the pipe, emptying the well does not take much time. It also sucks up all the dirt from below. I've never had dirt clog the pump itself. Simply use a hose and flush the entire system with water after use. Good thing I didn't cut the hose in half as recommended. Or rather, I held it for a long time and stuck a light bulb in at one end; Then place the bulb on the ground and start the siphon with a few clicks. I just leave the lightbulb on the floor while it all unwinds. Update 09/25/2020 The shutter in the lightbulb gets stuck in the open position at times. I rinse the hose and bulb with water after each use to keep the inside clean. It's a thin plastic flap that gets stuck. Updated 12/24/2020. The damper is stuck due to dirt. After cleaning it works great. I really benefit a lot from this pump.
