Review on ๐Ÿ•น๏ธ PORTTA 4x2 HDMI Matrix Switch: 4K@30Hz, Full HD 1080P, 3D Support, with SPDIF Coaxial Audio Extractor and IR Remote Control by Clete Dean

Revainrating 2 out of 5

SOMETIMES works but seems extremely prone to HDMI handshake issues affecting color and audio.

This 4x2 matrix switcher works for the most part - and I wouldn't hesitate to give it five stars if there weren't a few obvious issues I see right off the bat. The first issue concerns muting when switching to a different source. Perhaps this is due to the need for manual intervention, how many channels are needed (2 vs. 5.1), in this case I can at least understand it. The second and most serious problem is that switching to Source 1 very often results in colors that I can only describe as psychedelic - hot pinks, yellows and blues dominate the screen. To fix this, I found that unplugging and plugging back in the original HDMI cable was enough, but what a pain it was to do so. All cables have been in use for some time and have been extensively tested to work both directly to a TV and through an audio receiver (with loop through). Hopefully I can find a way to fix problem #2. If so, I'll be happy to add stars to this review. But for now I feel three stars is generous. a combination of devices and cables connected together. However, ALL problems COMPLETELY go away without a switch. For some people this won't be an issue, but unfortunately it just won't go away completely in my case, where I can safely place this switch out of sight/reach for fear of having to unplug and reconnect it again to make sure the matching wire to it worked perfect. I still have some hope that there is a way to fix this issue, but right now it's starting to look like this device needs to come back. the problems I had with this device. It seems that with some devices, namely the DirecTV HR54 and the LG TV, the chipset is simply not able to maintain a consistent and correct HDMI handshake. Too bad, but this switch is back.
