These mirrors are designed to fit a wide range of Ford products. So you may have a great first fit or need to adjust parts of the product as obviously Ford didn't always use the same tools. However, they've gotten it close enough to make a generic product fit. For the 2004 Excursion 4WD Limited, I had to tweak mine a bit. Here is what I found during installation. (1) The four mounting bolts have a round base that doesn't exactly match my car's factory hole. It was easy to set up by simply increasing the size of the base hole a bit. Four screws easily went through the existing inner holes in the door panel. (2) As with the others, I had to shorten the plastic extension that was too long. (3) The passenger mirror was tightened very well and I used cross tightening. Template to ensure everything is evenly seated. (4) The driver's side mirror worked fine, but I broke a screw. And he didn't disappoint as expected. The bolt is fixed in a plastic/ABS housing. I would expect any overtorque condition to cause the plastic to fail (pull/pull/etc). Instead, I was simply clamping the top right bolt with a nut and continuing to go down the bottom left (criss-cross) when I heard a loud pop just a few seconds after tightening the bottom left bolt and saw the fat bolt in the top right fly out of the hole (with the nut attached) and hit the back of my driver's seat. Probably at the speed of a paintball. This caused the bolt to fail longitudinally. The bolt broke cleanly in half, almost like a cut (I think it was a metallurgical failure due to contamination in the metal of the bolt). It should be noted that the factory bolts are slightly thicker and use an 11mm nut. They use a 10mm nut. In any case, the mirror is held on with only three screws, and maybe after Hurricane Sally moves, I'll take apart the driver's side and install a new screw. (5) Finally, the outer amber section has two functions. The top half is the turn signal and the bottom half is the parking light. Changed lightbulbs and made a discovery. There are no protrusions or screws on the amber cover to remove it. It is simply caulked lightly with caulk and can be easily removed with a screwdriver. In fact, I think it turned out to be too easy. After I had the LED bulbs I used more spacers to make sure they were secure.
