This device does its job well and is easy to use. Accuracy is +/- 5% compared to thermocouple readings. The only thing I don't like about it is the completely unnecessary and annoying beeper. I was able to open up the case and cut it out, so well done. I used to work with a laboratory infrared microscope with a fixed emissivity of 1.0 at a selected wavelength. It had to be cooled with liquid nitrogen to read at room temperature, so it's amazing to see such a cheap instrument do the same job. To get really good readings, you need to be able to use the emissivity setting, or at least understand what it does. 30 minutes. Focus laser beams on a pan and you'll get fairly accurate temperature readings. You may be surprised at how inaccurate most ovens are. Set at 350 degrees Fahrenheit, my oven was actually 330 Fahrenheit, which explains why the cake mixes took longer than usual. When set to 450F, my oven was actually at 450F, so the error may not be linear. Play with it, it's fun. This technology used to cost $100,000 and required liquid nitrogen.
