I bought this to complete a simpler shore loading system for my boat. The kit works in any situation where you need to regularly charge or maintain 12 volt batteries. This was necessary to make it easier to load the boat on shore. I'm tired of crawling under the dash to attach alligator clips to charge the batteries. These ring terminals were perfect. They fit right into the battery terminals and the SAE connectors make it easy to connect to either my solar panel or ground charger. The charging solution I'm using this with includes two different charging sources: a 60W Suaoki solar panel and a Noco Genius. Smart Charger G3500. Both are great and deliver the same amount of power to the batteries. The solar charger doesn't work that well at night and the wall charger doesn't work when camping on a boat. The charger requires the use of a solar charge controller for safety reasons. The Suaoki can be connected directly to the battery, but then the voltage must be controlled as this can overcharge the batteries and cause premature failure or worse. I use an Instapark PWM charge controller for this task, which fits the system perfectly. meets my requirements. I ordered a NOCO SAE adapter and it now plugs into a standard SAE connector and works fine, interchangeable with the solar charger. I added the SAE extension. It's basically a 12v power strip. Any SAE-SAE cable will work as long as it's an adequate gauge (AWG). For a 15 foot length this should be at least 12 AWG and preferably 10 AWG or even 8 AWG. For a 5 foot length, 16 AWG or 14 AWG is acceptable, of course 12, 10 or 8 is even better. Anything below these maximums will degrade the charging capability as it causes a significant voltage drop. Here are some alternatives that look good. any battery as alligator clips were problematic and not particularly reliable. The alligator clips meant I had to reach into the boat's battery compartment and almost always insure a decent bang on the head. Sometimes I would come back the next morning and find that one of them had fallen off. The use of ring terminals provides a solid connection to the battery and allows me to quickly connect/disconnect without banging my head. As a solution, I used Tetra-Teknica MotoBasics 16 gauge, 2 foot, 10 amp, 2 fused batteries. The OptiMate Y splitter worked well. I turn it off when not charging as I don't want accidental current being drawn through this connection when the boat is using a single battery. I'm looking for a solution, a diode that allows me to keep it connected at all times without risk.
