I grew up with much larger oil filler space heaters and traditional whole home radiator systems. It is a much better form of heat because it is not moving the air around, which can make your skin dry out quicker in the dry winter months. This is mostly due to the radiant heat coming off all of the surface area of these types of heaters.This one in particular has a pretty good thermostat that will turn off when the room air temp gets warm enough, it isn't perfect since the sensor is right next to this huge heat source. But it works. The heater is either on or off, meaning it is drawing 650 watts or 0, no variable heating in these (this is standard/common).This is not safe for small kids, or pets that may lay on it or knock it over, there is serious burn hazard because the coolest surface is still 170F while this is on, and over 240F on the thicker metal parts. There is no tip over protection that I could observe by laying it over slowly, or tipping quickly, it kept drawing 650watts. The heating elements inside would likely overheat if they are not submersed in oil while running, but I can not be sure that this happens, it is just my speculation - do not run it on its side or upside down! :-) You knew that though, you smarty pants you! :-)Hopefully you found my review helpful. :-) I have always relied on the reviewers to make decisions before buying, I feel that is the best part of Ebay!
