Smaller packaging. Then again, this is a powerful little heater! There are three modes: - Fan - Low Heat - High Heat It is important to understand that all modes operate at the same fan speed. In other words, you'll always hear the fan the same regardless of the setting. Therefore, low and high noise levels are the same. There is a dial to adjust the thermostat. When the temperature reaches the appropriate heat, it turns off the fan. The thermostat isn't temperature calibrated, you just have to find where on the dial you're comfortable. The unit heats up very quickly and the fan is powerful enough to heat a 10 x 12 room from 66 to 71 degrees in about 10 minutes. I returned the device for two reasons: 1. The fan is noisy. I used the gauge in the middle of the side of the block to compare this block, another cube heater, and my old cooling tower, all at the highest heat setting. That was the loudest. A rating of 66dB is like someone talking in the room. The other smaller unit was a little quieter, but not nearly as quiet as my tower heater. I think the lesson here is that a smaller fan makes more noise to be powerful.2. The thermostat is unreliable. I used a separate digital thermometer to see when the room temperature reached 71 degrees and set the dial to stop at that value, assuming the unit would hold that temperature. Unfortunately, it seems to tangle and sometimes makes the room drop to 68 and sometimes get hot to 73. Overall it's a good, solidly built device, but it just doesn't meet my needs. Based on my experience with two small heaters, I am again looking for a tower sized replacement. Pros: - Powerful - Heats up quickly Cons: - Noisy - Uneven heating
