These are very high quality leather items, much better than I expected for the price. No weird chemical smells or weird unknown dyes that bleed, just clear skin. Vegetable tanning is by far the best way to treat leather, especially when compared to today's harmful chemical methods that damage leather. Leather is a natural material and is ideal for people with allergies or sensitivities to synthetic materials such as neoprene. Leather is breathable and doesn't have that horrible "sneaker" smell when used in shoes, so it's actually a lot healthier than its alternatives. And yet no one can think of a product or material that is actually better for health or the environment than the natural and renewable raw material leather. In other words, no one has ever improved nature. I bought these to replace the leather insoles on a pair of old boots that I can't find replacement insoles for. I simply laid the worn insole on top and circled it lightly, then cut it out with heavy duty scissors (regular household scissors won't do the job, if they're capable of cutting leather at all). The boots had a unique shape so the standard boots didn't fit them as well as I would have liked. They have held up well and it has been over a year now. The leather I received was thick and tough, perfect for what I needed as I wanted something strong and durable, but they also sell a smoother leather that is more flexible, known as tool leather. I only have a few left and there is no limit to what you can use this leather for, so get creative!
