There were paper shapes in the package that match the shape of the mats. There are no guidelines for this. I realized that they can be used to position the mats by placing them first and then the mats on top. The paper prevents the Velcro from sticking to the mats. Once in place, slide the paper out and let the Velcro and side tabs hold it in place. Not easy to understand, but not rocket science. Let your kids help if you have them. Black/grey looks great with a white interior. You look too complicated. I only installed them an hour ago but I love the look. Even the back has a stunning navy blue reflective look. They aren't cheap but seem like a good long term investment.
