THIS IS NOT A TEAR-OFF COLLAR. I bought it for my 9 month old cat who is not used to wearing collars. The first collar I bought him when he was 2 months old was a breakaway collar and when he got nervous he tried to pull it off with his hind legs and mouth. came right away. Of course, when looking for a new one now that he's older, the breakup was key. In short, he did the same as he did as a kid and ended up in this collar. Screaming in pain and unable to break free. The collar managed to keep his jaw open due to the elastic, which the company claims is a runaway. Thank goodness I was home and able to remove the collar safely, I'm afraid to know what would have happened if I hadn't been there. DO NOT BUY if you need a detachable collar.
