I was a Dyson fan - maybe I was drawn to their stylish accessories. So far. Bought my wife a V6 BATTERY PACK for Christmas. Vacuumed pine needles on the kitchen floor last night. The device stops and starts flashing red. Called Dyson: Oh, the pine needles were wet. $249 for a replacement vacuum nozzle (on a $299 FULL unit). She dismissed every question I had with a written answer. Something tells me they've done this many, many times. No repair suggestions, only replacement. Not that I tried to clean up a liter of spilled milk. They were wet pine needles! Maybe a leaf. I think for this job I had to bring my $75 vacuum cleaner. It seems if they have the technology to detect moisture in the head they should be able to seal the bearings to protect the device. It should be on the $699 device. Seriously, if they have a moisture sensor, just turn the machine off until the moisture evaporates. Because I can buy 3 sharks for that. If my DC17 dies rest assured I will not replace it with a Dyson! Update: I've added two photos of the control board and engine block. Both are in the airflow path. A bit of epoxy on the board will help waterproof the SMIC a bit. Dyson contacted me via this forum today (despite having two units registered to my Dyson account) but as I got rid of the unit I suspect that as they wouldn't inspect/repair a defective unit they would even less would do filled with earth. I gave the battery and accessories to a friend who has them. By the way, there are no moisture warnings or any warning stickers anywhere on the device. There is again a suggestion in the manual with no real warning/emphasis on the machine's fragility to moisture. I think in the future I need to read the instructions carefully before each use. But then I didn't vacuum the water. just stuck some wet debris.
