Do you really think it will work?

Support Revain - sent the first one back for the wedding and the replacement showed up in less than 24 hours without checking first - made sure it was spinning up and down. found the original lift was really rusty, bought/installed a new one, left/removed the spare). When the tire salesman tried to install the spare part on the lift, it didn't work. Thought maybe it was just sticking a bit so I went home and my son and I tried cranking up/down. The cable would stretch up and down about three inches and then get stuck. I tried tugging on the cable in case it was a little tight, but that didn't help. He took off the winch, it was all torn to hell. The cable has come loose from the pulley and is pinched between the pulley and the housing. Plastic broken, two rivets torn out - totally destroyed when cranking up/down. Got a replacement. This time I clamped it in a vise and pulled the cable, scrolled the crankshaft - it was rough but it came out and eventually it pulled well. I sincerely believe that if I didn't have the cable under tension it would get knotted/pinched and come off the reel like the first one. Mounted on a jeep, a good long cable to pull it through the tire, tug a little to crank it. The launch was *very* finicky. had to constantly shake/adjust the wheel when going up - any extra load and the lift would "click". Eventually I started it and downloaded it. I hope he stays and doesn't slip and fall on me. I think I will. I'll watch it a few times over the next few weeks to see if it fails. I doubt the reliability of this elevator. It looks like the original has never been used. The original spare tire had a date code that predated the Jeep model year. So it's likely that the original part was never removed from the car (it rotted in place). I hope that the replacement part we have now will have about the same need. And hopefully this elevator will really hold up.
