Review on Portable recorder ZOOM H1n black by Nguyn Qu Thnh (Lo Lo ᠌

The product is the most common, it could be worse.

I must admit that my familiarity with Zoom-branded products is not so superficial. I have both H5 and H1n. So - both have the same problem - the connectors for connecting the USB cable are unreliable. The H5 broke down in the first year of operation, one of the eight H1n - already in the first six months. For comparison - I had a lot of "Olimpus" DM-650, and their connectors are much more tenacious even in very crooked hands. Another problem is that, in comparison with the "Olimpus" DM-650 recorders, the H1n, when using the "Auto level" mode, even quiet sounds from close sources are recorded well, but completely absorb sounds from distant ones. Alas, but as a replacement for a real voice recorder - it is so-so. The problem can be solved by switching to manual mode, but this is not very convenient, and not at all an option for unskilled users. They, corny, can blunt, and turn the sensitivity to zero, left without a record. It would be nice if ribs were applied to the body from the volume control side, so that the recorder would sit more securely in the hand. Another annoying thing is that when you remove the power supplies even for an hour, it resets the internal clock. How is that? Outside the 21st century. In general, I described the shortcomings, and the advantages are known from the instructions, so I see no point in listing them. I confess, rather disappointed, especially - for the money.

Pros
  • Nice design. Tripod mount available. Microphones are well protected from contact with surfaces. The battery compartment is organized better than that of "Olimpus" recorders, in which the cap is constantly under load and is guaranteed to break in the DM-650 models. Access to the deep customization menu by key combination, which somewhat insures against playful pens. Well-marked record button.
Cons
  • Does not retain time settings when batteries are removed for several minutes. In automatic mode, the recording is worse than that of the Olimpus recorders. The connectors for connecting the USB cable are not very reliable, it can break. The set does not include a lanyard. Drains batteries quickly.
