Our 2008 Sienna recently decided that she really wanted to see what it's like to be a kettle and decided to superheat the coolant and boil first. Of course, if this amazing ride is your primary mode of transportation to and from work, it's far from ideal. breaks down and starts spewing dirt into the cooling system. So I made a quick detour to my local shop and asked if they could stop by when they got back from vacation. A week later, when everyone was rested after the weekend, they called me and said that before they could look at the gasket, the radiator needed to be replaced (and since we did that and the car overheated so much that then stopped and the thermostat should be replaced). Work. Spring. Hm. No. I went to Amazon looking for a radiator and two days later I was elbow-deep in the replacement. I rated it 3 out of 5 for ease of installation, but that's not the cooler's fault. Toyota engineers put the bolts that hold the radiator in some silly places (hard to reach) and the clamps wouldn't play along either. But after much swearing and surprisingly little bloodshed, the new radiator (and thermostat) was in place, and I filled in the coolant. It took a little longer (and I asked the shop to check again later just to be sure) but the new radiator fitted straight away with a remaining screw or two. Now my wife has a certain twinkle in her eye when she looks at me, knowing I can keep the furry van going for a while longer.
