Review on 🏞️ Fuji Merchandise K032 STONE Brown by Mike Campbell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

One of the only good combination stones

One of the best combination stones on the market. On offer this is perhaps the best stone you can get. That's King Deluxe 1k and King S-1 6k thinned and fused. This is great for beginners. Feedback helps people who are just starting out, and a rock forces beginners into good technique, as poor technique hollows out the rock. Page 1k: Info: This is a clay bound stone. You can soak it. Soaking for at least 5 minutes is required before use. The stone is formulated for carbon steel, but is also suitable for stainless steel. It will cut super steels and high RRC knives, but sharpening those knives on this stone isn't ideal. Cons: - Yes, it's a soft stone, but that's the only significant downside. Poor technique chiseling Pros: - As always with Kingstones, the feedback is excellent. - The cutting speed is actually not that slow, contrary to popular belief. - When sharpening lightly, sometimes I only see chips on the stone, with no dirt. - Pleasant to the touch - Gives a dull Kasumi hue - Scratch pattern is smooth Page 6k: Info: Permasoak at your own risk. I've heard stories of the stone dissolving like a magnesia bonded stone even when bonded with a resin. I use it as a splash and go. Cons: - Light load (but the metal can be erased from the stone with hands) - Smells strange - Smells with poor technique. Pros: - Not too soft - Cuts fast enough - When sharpening with light pressure all I see is chipping on dirt-free stone - Can be polished almost to a mirror finish - Excellent feedback - Oily, creamy feel - Uniform scratch pattern The 6k side should not be soaked frequently and dried, resin stones will break if you do. Either soak constantly or use as a spray and go. Note: My stone arrived with no chips or cracks, FWIW.
