The instructions are kinda crap because the measurements they give you are wrong. It says the lid bracket (top) should be 22 inches from the end of the bed frame. The bed frame or (bottom) bracket needs to be 3 inches from the end of the bed frame. If you do it this way, the bed raises slightly, but it doesn't hold up well and only opens 11 inches. And it's useless. I had to remove the bed frame bottom fasteners 8 inches from the end of the frame. To get this you need to raise the lid to the advertised 24 inches. The only downside is that it is VERY stiff now as these supports are a bit stiffer than they should be. Overall I'm happy with the result but not the frustration it took to get this to work so well. Build a frame for the bedspread to strengthen it as the posts are so stiff I would probably break the bedspread if I tried to close it without this. Even if it's so stiff that the whole thing sags when you close it. I could try to find weaker supports. Overall, I would not buy this set again. The instructions suck and the support is tough.
