Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of this "feature" when I bought TEN of these devices last year and put them all over my house. Now I'm hoping to quickly replace all the batteries before the remaining nine scare me to death in the middle of the night. Deep sleep until the sound of the fire alarm, you can tell it's just a "low battery" as none of the voice alerts (location, fire, etc.) are playing. What a bad design. I wish I could send them all back and get something without such a ridiculous downside.
